Taylor
Taylor Swift is that rarest of pop phenomenons: a superstar who managed to completely cross over from the country music scene to making her an iconic celebrity and then conquering the world in the process. Swift left her country roots as if they were just a second skin, revealing she was possibly the most savvy populist singer/songwriter of her generation one who could harness the mood of the moment and personalize it and just as impressively perform opposite. The skills she displayed are evident in some of the first songs she released, most notably the neodue Tim McGraw. But on the second album Fearless which came out in 2008, Swift could identify who she is and find an audience that was large. The album was hugely successful not only in the United States, where six of its singles were certified platinum on the back of Top Ten hit songs Love Story and You Belong with Me. But the album also enjoyed a great reception across the globe. Speak Now delivered almost two years later consolidated that achievement and propelled Swift into the stratosphere of superstardom. The next three albums she released, Red (2012) 1989 (2004) and Reputation (2017), the popularity of Swift grew, and she became part of the world of pop music in which it became clear she belonged. Although she slowed down her work with folklore and Evermore albums in the year 2020, she was in the forefront of pop music.
